Every dog deserves a chance to live a life full of love and happiness. Sadly, many canines, especially those with disabilities, face abandonment and neglect. Such was the fate of a unique female spaniel pup who was heartlessly dumped in a car park simply because she looked different.
Greenacres Rescue, a compassionate animal rescue organization, shared the heartbreaking news on their Facebook page. They had recently taken in a puppy with six legs and several other abnormalities. Although her past remained a mystery, it was clear that she had been abandoned due to her rare condition.
Rescuers immediately stepped in to provide her with care, naming her Ariel. The name suited her well, as someone remarked she resembled a mermaid. Despite her physical differences, Ariel’s gentle nature won over everyone at the shelter.
Hope Through Diagnosis and Care
Determined to give Ariel a second chance at life, Greenacres Rescue rushed her to the veterinarian. She underwent several tests and medical assessments to determine the extent of her condition. Fortunately, the results brought hope.
Doctors found that Ariel was otherwise healthy and happy. Her additional legs and the beginnings of an extra vulva were caused by a malformed pelvis and an extra hip joint. The medical team developed a surgical plan to remove the excess limbs and evaluate the strength of her remaining legs.
“The plan will be to let her settle after her ordeal and reassess her in one month with the aim of removing the additional limbs and exploring the function of her remaining leg,” the shelter stated. Their words showed their determination to help her lead a normal life.
A Journey of Healing and Transformation
After some time to relax and regain strength, Ariel underwent multiple veterinary visits, scans, and consultations with specialists. The team carefully prepared for her surgery, hoping to restore her mobility and comfort.
When the day finally arrived, Ariel’s operation went smoothly. Her surgeon, Aaron Lutchman, later told the BBC, “She’s doing really well, she’s bounced back and she’s a happy little dog. We’re hoping she’s going to go on to lead a fabulous little life.”
By the very next day, Ariel had already begun exploring her surroundings. Her resilience amazed everyone. Loving foster parents welcomed her into their home and gave her the attention she needed during her recovery.
Over the following months, Ariel made incredible progress. Her transformation from a discarded puppy into a playful and joyful companion gave hope to everyone involved in her journey.

Raised by a special lady called June, who has worked wonders in her care for her, Ariel is a beautiful, vibrant and gentle soul who is already bringing so much joy into our lives.”
